In 2013, the Hinterland Local League emerged to address a gap in the bowling scene. The existing Superchallenge series, with its hefty travel demands and high costs, left many local clubs and their bowlers sidelined. Recognizing this, the league founders envisioned a more accessible option. They aimed to create a local competition mirroring the Superchallenge, but with lower entry fees and shorter distances, fostering wider participation and club representation.
Starting with six Hinterland clubs (Nambour, Nambour Heights, Woombye, Palmwoods, Mapleton, and Yandina), the league quickly attracted Bowlers Paradise as its major sponsor, solidifying its presence as the "Bowlers Paradise Hinterland Local League." This marked the beginning of a successful journey that continues to provide local bowlers with affordable, competitive, and enjoyable representative opportunities.
